An OV certificate is an SSL in which the legal entity is validated on top of the domain: the company name, country and city of registration go inside the certificate, and anyone who opens the certificate details in a browser can see them. Validation takes 1–3 business days — the authority matches the data against the business register and confirms a phone number found in an independent source. What organization validation adds
A DV certificate contains the domain and nothing else. An OV certificate also carries company details that the certificate authority verified against a register:
- the name of the legal entity;
- the country and city of registration;
- a confirmed contact phone number.
Anyone who opens the certificate details in a browser can see them. Faking such a certificate under your brand is far harder than faking a DV one.

What to prepare in advance
To keep validation from dragging on, collect this before ordering:
- the exact company name as it appears in the commercial register;
- the registered address and the registration number;
- a phone number that can be found in a public register or directory;
- access to a role mailbox on the domain or to the DNS zone.
If the number is not in the register, the authority accepts a bank confirmation or a telecom invoice instead — we will tell you what fits your case.

Documents, timing and differences
Usually the data in the public company register is enough. The authority may additionally ask for a telecom invoice, a bank letter or an extract.
1–3 business days. It takes longer when the company details in the register differ from those in the order.
The data is confirmed again, but faster: the authority may reuse details it collected earlier, within the allowed reuse period.
Yes, if the business is registered and its data is in the register. If not, DV remains the option, since it needs no company check.
The padlock is the same as with DV. The company name appears in the certificate details, where the browser shows the issuer and the subject.
